Protect an Anonymous Supporter in Every Publication

Check the details around a story as well as the name.

Blank planning cards, a wooden house token and a sage notebook; a fictional editorial illustration.

A useful distinction

Removing a name may not prevent identification when an update includes a photograph, occupation or uniquely described contribution. Privacy review needs the complete communication. A fictional editorial image avoids depicting a real supporter but still needs an honest caption.

Put it into practice

Read the draft for indirect identifying details and check the person’s preference. Restrict internal access to information needed for administration. Do not claim anonymity merely because one field is hidden while a public story makes the person readily recognisable.
