A useful distinction
A story can explain an activity while preserving the person’s agency and context. Selecting only dramatic details may create a misleading or exploitative portrayal. Permission also needs to cover the actual story and intended use, not merely a previous conversation.
Put it into practice
Discuss the proposed wording and publication context through an appropriate process. Use confirmed facts, avoid unnecessary personal details and distinguish a fictional example from a real account. Do not invent dialogue or outcomes to make an appeal more emotional.
